Reflection on Mapletree Challenge Forum

The speakers from the SIT Mapletree Forum are the top industry leaders. They have shared about their experiences as an entrepreneur and being environmentally friendly. These speakers have a successful company which originated from a simple idea.

They came from different backgrounds of expertise which produces successful products and runs a company. They have encountered many obstacles in the entrepreneurship world than us as a student. One thing in common from them is, the problems they have faced daily will be challenging. In order to resolve the problems arise in their company, it requires resilience and perseverance to be able to sacrifice time, money and patience with the people they need to work with.

Being as an entrepreneur, they have to be able to organise their resources, including time, money and broadening their networking skills like potential clients or customers. Before embarking on to entrepreneurship, we will need to write out a business plan, a good business network, friends with common interests, and an immediate action drill as a foundation for making a decisions.

Eugene has mentioned that the government in Singapore has a lot of incentives to help mould the future entrepreneurs. He has encouraged us to start working in a corporate company to learn in solving the problems faced and building up the network for the future business.

In view of my family’s food and beverage business, in that industry, it requires the skill to produce quality products and the determination to operate long opening hours which requires the will power to regularly run the business for the years to come.

The Mapletree forum has provided me a ‘fire in my belly’ drive to start thinking on how I should execute my family's business, if I have decided to retire from the engineering industry. Being an entrepreneur is a choice but having the passion to run the business is another thing to reflect on if this is the path to achieve great success in life.

  4. Hi Baizurah,

great insights that you had gained from the forum, and apply it to your situation as well. Hahas, I'm curious as to where your family biz is so I can go try the excellent quality myself too. Like the saying goes "failing to plan is planning to fail" is truly applicable from my understanding of your post.
